Who’s Who

Sorry, this area of the site is currently being reorganised. I’ve been doing a lot of research lately, and it needs a new look to do it justice.

So please keep popping back to see what has been happening.

DISSARD

Jean DISSARD 1888 – 1970

DISSARD was a lawyer born in Puy de Dôme; he held several roles in the Prefecture of Ardéche. During his time in Sarthe, 4 Jews were deported; his performance was later described as ‘doubtful’.

He was appointed Deputy Préfet to Edouard BONNEFOY in Lyon in 1941 and was suspended in September 1944.

This link takes you to the “Les Déportés Juifs de la Sarthe” site. Whilst this site is a magnificent work, we cannot validate the integrity of the information within.

MARIZY

CHARLES ARSÉNE MARIZY 1873 – 1947

Marizy was a Civil Engineer who spent much of his life working in Ukraine. He settled in Chamelet with his wife and children just after the conclusion of the First World War. He was the Adjoint to Mayor THOLIN and so took on the duties of Mayor when THOLIN died in Office in 1943. He resigned shortly after citing reasons of poor health, this becoming the shortest service Mayor of the Commune at just 57 days.

SONNERY

SÉBASTIEN JEAN-MARIE  SONNERY 1892 – 1944

SONNERY was a farmer who lived with his wife in a small hamlet within Chamelet. He was designated at the Mayor of the Commune after Mayor MARIZY resigned. He was arrested by the occupying forces in December 1943, who believed he knew the whereabouts of the local Maquis. He died early the following year in a Concentration Camp

Ex-mayor of Chamelet died in office during the Second World War occupation of France in 1943.
