Father’s Day

A few photo's of and by my Dad

As the 17th June, approaches along with my start date of 10th June I am thinking about the 17th June in particular – Father’s Day. Whilst, not every country celebrates this on the same day, perhaps now is a good time to think of all those fathers, of all nationalities, who fought so bravely during World War II.

Some of those fathers, their children never got to know and some were lucky enough to survive.

My Father was just a teenager in London during this period and he went on to do his National Service in the RAF. His brother, my uncle was a navigator in the RAF in both Europe and the Far East and was one of those lucky ones.

Perhaps, this was one reason why my Dad was so supportive of my little project to help the IBCC. Sadly, however, he died at the beginning of May and will not get to share my journey with me. This is to be my first Father’s day without him and I whilst he may not be encouraging me over the phone, I know it’s his spirit that will motivate me when I need it most.
